Special variety. Limited availability.
Selection from E.colorata form brandtii.
A beautiful variety of Echeveria, which grows slowly and forms a large rosette 30 cm in diameter, with distinctive, succulent, pointed leaves and with the old leaves taking on a light pink hue. The entire leaf surface is completely covered by a white waxy coating which gives the plant a very attractive appearance. Watering the leaves of the plant should be avoided as it can remove the waxy coating. It is recommended to water only in the soil of the pot.
The origin of this variety was a bit of a mystery until November 12, 2004, when Myron Kimnach, an Echeveria expert, author and former director of the Huntington Botanic Garden, reported that this variety is closely related to E.colorata form brandtii. He proposed to call it Echeveria colorata 'Mexican Giant' noting that this name is correct as it was the first published along with the description of the plant, in 1977 by Mac Holmes. The same name was later used in the book 'Echeveria cultivars' by Lorraine Schulz and Attila Kapitany. Η Echeveria colorata form brandtii is found in Jalisco Mexico, at an altitude of 6800 meters. The name colorata probably refers to the red colour that the new growth and older leaves often have.
